Hidden Green Mushroom for Super Mario 3D Land Nintendo games are always the same price even months after the game has come out. This shows the great quality of the game but do people talk about it and does it sell that much more? Iwata is talking about giving Super Mario 3D Land and bringing DLC through the new services that are available to the new upcoming Nintendo Network. “Even if the game had the sales potential to other new consumers, they rarely actually bought it because the consumers who already had bought it would never talk about it again and the game would be considered an old one,” explained Iwata. Another example is the Professor Layton series. So person buys the latest Prof Layton and finishes it. Then hits the weekly puzzles that are update to the game via “DLC” that same person then calculates the amount of weeks since the launch of an older title and buys it to go through the game and all those puzzles. All through this process talking about the wonderful features and sharing puzzles with others. Iwata continues, “Having said that, what if we could provide add-on content through the network? ... This is the idea of supplying new stages to Super Mario users who want to play the game more but have completed the game and lost interest in the existing stages. This will not only give us new profits but will lengthen the life of a product, in that it will never be out of fashion and can keep attracting public attention as long as many people play it.” Score for everyone! Good titles and great ideas that benefit us the gamers. Life’s great with a Nintendo 3DS. Source

For those of you thinking that the price will drop, I’m not so sure, this might be just like a Mario game that never drops its price. Wii wish U a Merry Christmas. Launch date annouced! I was worried that the Wii U might be coming out this year March, only a year from the 3DS launch, but happy about the new announcement. The Wii U will be launching ready for Christmas 2012. The reason that I was worried was the talk with the local distributors and them not knowing when the date was. Not that normal “I have no comment (but I just can’t tell you now because its 2 months away)”, an actual “they have not told us yet :( “. I want South Africa to stay on its UK release schedule or before. This will give Nintendo and the 3rd party’s time to work on the controller and make the improvements that are needed to make it the best gaming console in the world! (echo vote needed for those last few words). No confirmation from the local distributors, but I’ll let you know when it is confirmed. Don’t worry too much; I’m sure it will come out at the same time. You’ll have your Wii U for Christmas. Source (ONM)
Pokémon in Politics? It does not matter if you are a Republican or Democrat nor does it matter in South Africa. Not that I know the difference of some of them… It matters and takes a spot in the Nintendo news when a former presidential primary candidate, Herman Cain, sings the whole theme song form Pokémon: the Movie 2000! Yip I thought that it was just a bit, but no it’s the whole thing. He actually takes the word of encouragement into his speech, and if there were not geeks like us listening you would have thought that they were all his words. The only thing missing to turn that political speech into a religious one was a few “thank the Lord” and “Amen”. All-in-all it was nice implementation and good singing of the song with a few select words changing to “America” to give the song meaning to the crowd. Enjoy the clip below. Source (joystiq)
Demos, Demos and more demos. Nintendo UK has sent out press release to let us know of the 3DS demos that will be available on the eShop. Starting tomorrow Resident Evil: Revelations and Cooking Mama 4 will be available. Future demos are on their way with the likes of Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games and Rhythm Thief & the Emperor’s Treasure. It’s going to be fun, fun, fun only not as fun as the real game, but it helps when picking which games to buy. Nintendo 3DS games are cheaper than the other console games but it’s still a lot of money. Enjoy the demos and choice your purchases wisely.

It’s actually been back for almost a year now. If you remember the launch event where there was some Ducklett Damage? There have been those that go out to buy the cards to make beautiful decks and play against other just for fun, the collectors to get them all, but the best news is the competition. South Africa has received that approval! Yes, leagues, tournaments, battle roads, regional and national championships are all open in South Africa approved by the Pokémon Company.

It’s new and there are still a few bumps but leagues can now be approved locally, there is support for stickers, cards and badges to be sent from the Pokémon Company to your league. It all starts at a league level, where Pokémon TGC players come together to play “practise” games against each other. Whether you win or lose you get a sticker for the game, 8 stickers gets you a pair of special cycle cards. These are an energy and Pokémon card relevant to the cycle and modified to be different and most of the time better than the standard version. Once  you have earned 4 sets of these cards then a badge just like in the cartoons is presented to the player. All the stickers, cards and badges are provided by the Pokémon Company at no expense to the league organizer.

At some of these leagues there will be unsanctioned tournaments with prizes obtained by the organizer running the league and these lead into real sanctioned tournaments. The greater the tournament the more points can be obtained on your Pokémon Player ID. These points can actually qualify you to gain entrance to the World Championships this year in Waikaloa Hawaii for 2012!

The first league session happened last Friday afternoon and this was done just for Jaco and I to test run the league system, and get some player ID’s up. There is another session open for everyone this Saturday starting at 12h00 going on until 16h00. This session is at the Core Group Head Offices for now, across the road from Sandton City, but there is another league starting in PTA. I try run the league session as often as I can but checking when the league is on is as easy as searching for a league on the www.Pokémon.com web site. Follow the links below.

It’s great to start something that players of any age can come to play and learn. There is Gustavo Wada an 11 year old boy, now Junior Division World Champion for 2011 going through to Josue’ Palomino aged 28 and fourth place in the Masters Division. The game is friendly, educating and fun for all. If you play Pokémon or know of others, let them know and send them through with their cards to join us at the FPLSA (The First Pokémon League of South Africa).

Nintendo have already confirmed that they are working on a new Zelda title but here is an updated rumour. They are adding a bit of Pokémon spice to it. They are working on two Zelda titles for the 3DS one being fire and the other ice. Their full names are The Legend of Zelda: Fire Prophecy and The Legend of Zelda: Ice Prophecy, just encase you can’t read the image.

I like the approach of two titles to the same game with a little different. I’m sure they are going to use a lot of the new features on the 3DS, and I wonder how the StreetPass will work.

Update: The two games (at least the screen shots) are fake. A freelance games translator who speaks fluent Japanese claims this on the following points.

-Using を instead of の, which renders it completely nonsensical
-Writing “fire” in kanji and “ice” in katakana makes the titles inconsistent. They should either write both in katakana or both in kanji

Nintendo have revealed the Street Pass details for the new and upcoming Resident Evil: Revelations, but take a minute to look at the very cool box that the game will come in! Nintendo really can sell add-ons and accessories to their hardware. If you were looking to get your hands on the second circle pad accessory then get it with the new Resident Evil. All the box is missing is your 3DS to place in the spot indicated in red and the gore will begin. What a fantastic box art…

On to the main fact of the article it looks like playing the campaign mode by your self will not be as fun without walking past a few people. Street Pass will give the player a parachute icon indicating that the pass has transferred a new item to you. I hope it’s a little bit more than with Super Mario 3D Land, I want a machine gun, not a pistol again! In RAID mode or Co-Op it’s much better with new enemies and missions “unlocked” by passing with others.

This gives us more reason to get out of the house or turn on our consoles when on public transport. I’ve even had a Street Pass in traffic in my car. For those of us in South Africa the @JHBGamers, @PTAGamer, @ctpgamers and @DBNGamers events that will not only enrich our social life but create opportunities to Street Pass. Check them out on their twitter and Facebook accounts/pages. Or just follow me on twitter and I’ll retweet them, @Fanaticit.
