More Voltage for everyone!
Written by Fanaticit

The Grinder CharactorsIt’s true if you add more voltage to some it either blows up or does better? Well High Voltage Studios the developers of The Conduit, the first “high detail graphics” first person shooter to hit the Wii. They have just released their next project “The Grinder”. This Halloween thriller looks good for a Wii game in the preview video below, but will it be tempting enough for the Xbox 360 and Playstation gamers. The Grinder will be coming to all three platforms. Explained by the CEO Kerry Ganofsky, “We did a reality check on ourselves a few months back where we evaluated the market, saw an opportunity, and seized it. We are confident that the new direction allows us to provide a much more polished game experience and to reach more gamers that will appreciate it. Fans frequently ask us if we are ever going to make a game similar to Hunter: The Reckoning again. We are very excited about the future of Grinder and welcome the chance to hear what the fans think about our new direction and hopefully our new game fits the bill for them.
She also said some interesting things about The Conduit. "We are extremely proud of the sales for The Conduit, with over 350,000 copies sold, numerous 'best-of 2009' nods, and over a million hours played according to the Nintendo Channel, we are the go-to FPS on the Wii. If you look at the sales for the games that are lumped in as 'hardcore' titles for the Wii (Silent Hill, Dead Space, et al), you'll notice that sales for those types of games are low across the board."

Bioshock 2 on Wii?
Written by Fanaticit

Bioshock2With Boishock 2 coming out this Friday (12th of February), there is a bit of attention to be had. It’s been 10 years since Boishock and the new one might be a continuation on the story but where are changes in the game-play. In an interview with Marin’s Jordan Thomas, Industry Gamers asked if there were thoughts of Biosock 2 on the Wii?

"Nothing beyond speculation presently," he answered, then adding: "Anything that's brought to the Wii tends to need to be purpose built, or fairly fundamentally re-architected. There are few games that use Unreal that made it across to the Wii. It doesn't mean that it's out of the sphere of possibility, but it's not something we considered for BioShock 2."

The Next Nintendo Platform will be announced at GDC
Written by Fanaticit
Wii

The GDC is the Gamer Developers Conference and will be at San Francisco for 2010. The dates are the 9th to the 13th of March and it’s going to be at the Moscone Center.  VideoGamer.com has been contacted by a “source” saying the they “Just heard a rumour that you may be interested in: Nintendo are going to announce a new platform as GDC. Some devs have already started work on it.” There contact could not tell them anymore and also did not know if it was handheld, home console or something else.

Let’s break this down it to some pieces to see if it could be true.

- Nintendo were “boo-ed” by the developers when they released to the public the news of the Wii Motion Plus because they had not let the game developers know of the product before hand and they were unable to use its technology.
- All the top boys at Nintendo have been talking a lot recently about the next version of the Wii and what it will or will not contain.
- As long as the new Wii has some backwards compatibility it’s not going to upset customers by bringing out a new version to soon on top of the older one, as the Wii was launched in 2006. Nintendo almost always puts backwards compatibility with their new consoles.
- It can’t be another version of the DS, and would Nintendo want to control three different types of console with “something else”. You actually never know with Nintendo.

Your comments on this are welcome...

Mega Man 4 in Australia
Written by Fanaticit
megaman4

The Australian OFLC Classification has just added Mega Man 4. The release date has already been set for Japan, but nothing for the UK or US virtual console. Most people will have heard the hype around Mega Man 9 and it being available on Xbox Live, PSN and our favourite the Wii Ware. Some would know that the Virtual Console has the first 3 Mega Mans available already. I have downloaded each one on turn and finished them in their order, hoping that by the time I get to the end of 3 that 4 would have come out. This was around 6 months ago and still no 4. Well this news that Australian has registered it is good to know and here’s hoping it gets onto the UK virtual console soon.

10 Things that Nintendo Gamer is looking forward to in 2010 for South Africa
Written by Fanaticit

Here are the 10 things that South African Nintendo Gamers should look forward to this year. Add more into the comments if I have left any out.

Wii Vitality Sensor

10 - Wii Vitality Sensor

It’s always nice to have more accessories to choose from, and this one not being very popular will still interest me. It will also add to the tools that the developers have at their disposal for games, look at what the Wii Fit Board did. It was announced at last year’s E3 and to follow Nintendo’s trend will come out around this year’s E3.

Pokewalker9 - Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver

I play the latest Pokémon games and enjoy them, but the new version of the game is not what I am looking forward to. It’s the Poké walker. As a Poké ranger you are always walking around and sometimes all the way across the island, this device will measure the step you take in the real world and give you experience points and let you bond more with the Pokémon that you place while you are not playing.

wii-hd-fake-box8 - Wii HD

There has been lots of talk about the next Wii console and “If it adds HD it will take over the market?” I disagree because I think it will make the Wii more of a hardcore console and lose some fun element. The good news is that the big boys in Nintendo agree with me, they would rather make sure that good game-play and fun is kept with HD graphic as a side offering if they have time. The chance that the new Wii will come out this year is very slim, but it might be the best thing to show off at E3 this year.

7 - The Wii taking the PS2 market share

With the PS2 games not being supported and created officially in this year, these not-so-hardcore games will need to look at a new platform to play their games on. I am in great hope that this platform will be the Wii. I'll settle for them going to the PS3.

Bleach The 3rd Phantom6 - Bleach The 3rd Phantom

I've played the first two Bleach DS titles, The Blade of Fate and Dark Souls, and I am really looking forward to the next one. I am also a big fan of the anime and have watched all the episodes that are available. There is a RPG element to The 3rd Phantom and I would like to go through the newly promised story too.

5 - Red Steel 2

Red Steel 2 is a game that loads of hard core fans are waiting for. This will be a very good excuse to buy a Wii, onl ...        I’m looking forward to it don’t get me wrong, but whether it will be as great as the hype I don’t know. I played the demo code version and it will still need a lot of work before I enjoy the controls as much as I would like to. I did how ever play almost one year old code now, so let’s hold thumbs and hope that they have fixed it.

compare-dsi-ds-lite4 - DSi (XL or not)

We are still unsure when the DSi and any of its models will be coming to South Africa (legally), but I am pushing and hoping for this year. It’s not for the new operating system and the games are the same, it’s the downloads! There is a range of DSiWare game just waiting for me to download them and play, and my fingers are itching.

Apple iPad vs. DSi XL
Written by Fanaticit
dsipad127

In South Africa The Core Group and Nintendo are more or less one and the same which makes this story even funnier.  Both major hardware companies have release that same statement in the last few weeks. Apple is bringing out an iPad which is just a bigger iPhone or iPod Touch. Just the same as the DSi XL is just a bigger DSi.

Let’s take a look that the products compared. In size the DSi XL is 160% larger than the DSi and the iPad is 799.8% bigger that the iPhone or iPod Touch. In compatibility the iPad is compatible with all iPhone apps that don’t use the camera. DSi XL is compatible with all DSi and DS games that don’t use the Game Boy Advance slot. The new accessories for the iPad are a dock-in keyboard and the DSi XL comes with a bigger pen-sized stylus.

Here comes the real laugher. When Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced the DSi XL he used the words: “an improved view angle on the screens to make it a first portable system that can be enjoyed with people surrounding the gamer,”. Then a few weeks later in a promotional video Bob Mansfield, Senior Vice President of Hardware says, “not only a great experience looking directly at the device, but also off-angle when you’re sharing the device with someone else.”
